Who we are

Mariner Tools is operated by Watch & Navy. This privacy policy explains how we handle information when you use our free marine and GPS calculators at marinergps.tools, tools.watchandnavy.com, and related domains.

What we collect

We do not ask you to create an account and we do not collect your name or email address through these tools.

Analytics (optional)

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used. This helps us learn which tools are useful, identify interactions that may be confusing or broken, improve reliability, and decide where to improve Mariner Tools.

The analytics events we send may include:

• Pages and tools viewed, and the selected site language
• Whether a conversion or calculation was completed, identified only by tool and action type
• Changes to settings such as theme, map style, units, display format, precision, and whether inputs should be remembered
• Clear/reset actions, validation error categories, and 404 page occurrences
• Clicks on navigation, home-page controls, carousel items, promotions, and links to other websites
• For outbound links, the destination domain rather than the full destination URL

We do not send calculator values, GPS coordinates, pasted text, free-text error messages, or full destination URLs to Google Analytics. Values entered into a calculator may be used temporarily in your browser to avoid counting the same action repeatedly, but those values are not included in the analytics event.

Google Analytics may also collect information provided by its standard implementation, including session statistics, approximate location, browser and device information, and a client identifier stored in a first-party cookie such as _ga. Google states that it does not log or store individual IP addresses in Google Analytics 4. Google processes this information according to its Privacy Policy and explains how it uses information from sites and apps in its partner sites notice.

Analytics only runs after you choose Accept on the cookie banner. We configure analytics storage as denied before consent and do not load Google Analytics in local development environments.

Functional storage on your device

To make the tools work the way you expect, we save some choices in your browser’s localStorage. This is separate from analytics cookies and is not shared with us. It includes:

• Display theme (standard, high contrast, or night vision)
• Map style and decimal precision preferences from Settings
• Whether to remember calculator inputs, and the values you have entered when that option is on
• Your analytics consent choice

These preferences keep working if you decline analytics. You can clear saved calculator values at any time from Settings.

Maps

Some tools show maps. Depending on configuration, maps may load from Google Maps, including embedded map views. When a map loads, the coordinates displayed on that map, your IP address, and map interaction data may be sent to Google under its own terms. This is separate from Google Analytics: calculator coordinates are not included in our analytics events. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies only for optional analytics, as described above. Functional preferences use localStorage instead of cookies. You can accept or decline analytics when the cookie banner appears, or change your mind later in Settings.

Legal basis (EEA and UK visitors)

Analytics cookies are used only with your consent. Functional storage is used to provide features you request (such as remembering settings or inputs) and, where applicable, on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a usable, reliable website.

Google receives and processes analytics and map data under the applicable Google terms. Depending on where you are and how Google’s services operate, information may be processed outside the UK or EEA using safeguards recognised under applicable data-protection law.

Retention

We keep user-level and event-level Google Analytics data available for detailed analysis for no longer than 14 months. Aggregated reporting may be retained for longer. Preferences and saved calculator values remain in your browser until you clear them, disable input remembering, or remove the site’s stored data through your browser.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, or to withdraw consent. Because we do not operate user accounts on this site, most data is either stored only on your device or handled by Google Analytics under your consent. To exercise rights relating to analytics data processed by Google, you may also use tools provided by Google or your browser.

You can decline or withdraw analytics consent at any time without affecting the calculators or your saved preferences.

If you have questions or concerns about how we handle personal information, please contact Watch & Navy first so we can try to resolve them. You can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office for independent advice or if you remain dissatisfied.

Children

Mariner Tools is a general-purpose navigation utility and is not directed at children under 16.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
